OCR (Optical Character Recognition)
Optical
Character Recognition (OCR) enables the computer to identify written
or printed characters.
OCR can be applied to your images, enabling
editable text in any format, be it MS Word, Lotus Notes, Adobe
or just a text
file.
This is ideal for documents such as Office
Manuals / Information Pages and Books in need of updating.
OCR can also be applied to non-editable
text – as supplied
on CDs with their own software – to provide an additional
search facility.
The software examines the page and extracts
the text from it, storing it in a form that can be edited or processed
by
normal word processing software.
The ability to scan the characters accurately
depends on how clear the text is. Although the process is up to 95%
accurate, any text scanned with OCR needs careful checking because
some
letters can be misread.
